“goshinjutsu” self defense techniques
Aikidō is, in addition to jūdō and kendō, being practiced and demonstrated to the public on a regular basis by the Japanese police because of its positive qualities as self-defense.
Aikidō as a fighting system teaches both how to defend yourself in a self-defense situation, but also, and more importantly, the confidence and the necessary awareness in order to avoid or to de-escalate conflicts or attacks from the outset. Self-defense, or rather “self protection”, primarily means how not to fight, and what you can do to avoid having to fight.
Furthermore, styles such as the Serbian “Real Aikidō” give evidence to the fact that Aikidō techniques are also effective to ward off an attack.
